The Dead Sea sits over four hundred metres below sea level, and its water is so mineral-dense that almost nothing lives in it. People have been bathing in it for thousands of years, and the salt harvested from its shores has a mineral profile quite unlike ordinary sea salt — notably higher in magnesium, potassium and calcium chlorides, and much lower in the sodium chloride that makes up most table salt.

This is that salt, unrefined and unscented. No perfume, no dye, no essential oil blend. If you want a fragranced soak you can add your own oils; this is the raw material.

How to use it

• Full bath: dissolve two to three generous handfuls in a warm bath and soak for around twenty minutes.
• Foot soak: two tablespoons in a bowl of hot water.
• Compress: dissolve a teaspoon in warm water and apply with a clean cloth.
• Rinse with fresh water afterwards and pat dry. Reseal the pack between uses.

Dead Sea salt has a long traditional association with dry, rough or itchy skin, and it is a common choice for anyone who finds ordinary bath products too heavily fragranced. Because nothing is added, it also suits people who prefer to keep perfume out of their routine entirely.

For external use only. Do not swallow. Avoid contact with the eyes. Do not use on broken, cracked or freshly shaved skin, as salt will sting. Take care getting out of the bath, as the water can feel slippery.
