£19.99

This Zechstein Magnesium Oil Spray is a 100ml fine-mist bottle of ultra pure magnesium chloride brine. The Zechstein seam is a bed of ancient evaporated seawater lying deep below northern Europe, sealed off from the surface for millions of years, and it is the source most often specified when a magnesium product is described as ultra pure.

Why a Zechstein Magnesium Oil Spray is graded differently

Magnesium chloride can be harvested from open sea water, from surface lakes or from deep underground seams. The deep seam is prized because it has been isolated from modern industry and agriculture, so the brine arrives without the contaminants that surface sources can carry. Nothing is added here: the bottle contains magnesium chloride and water and nothing else. No fragrance, no colour, no preservative.

How to apply it

Five to ten sprays on clean, dry skin is a normal amount. Work it in with the flat of your hand across the arms, the legs, the shoulders or the soles of the feet, and leave it to dry rather than rinsing. The finish is faintly tacky as it dries, which is normal for a saturated salt solution. If that bothers you, rinse it off after fifteen or twenty minutes. A tingling sensation on the first few uses is common and usually fades.

Why it is called an oil

There is no oil in the bottle. The name comes from the slippery, oil-like feel of a saturated magnesium chloride solution between the fingers. It is worth knowing before the first spray, because the texture is unlike anything else in a bathroom cabinet and is often mistaken for a fault. It washes off with plain water.

Cautions and storage

Avoid the eyes, any broken skin, and freshly shaved areas, where the salt will sting. Not to be swallowed. Store upright, capped, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Suitable for vegans and free from fragrance. This is a cosmetic product rather than a food supplement, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Zechstein Magnesium Oil Spray?
A: Zechstein Magnesium Oil Spray is a 100ml fine-mist pump bottle made from ultra pure magnesium chloride brine. It is applied directly to the arms, legs and shoulders rather than swallowed. For external use only.
Q: What is magnesium oil?
A: Magnesium oil is not an oil at all. It is a concentrated solution of magnesium chloride in water, which feels slightly oily on the skin — hence the name. It is a topical product, applied and left on rather than ingested.
Q: What does Zechstein mean?
A: Zechstein refers to an ancient underground salt deposit in northern Europe, formed when a prehistoric sea evaporated and was sealed beneath rock. It is a well-known commercial source of magnesium chloride brine, and is where the magnesium in this spray originates.
Q: How do you use magnesium oil spray?
A: Pump the fine mist directly onto clean, dry skin — typically the arms, legs and shoulders — then rub it in. Avoid applying it straight after shaving or onto broken skin. If you prefer, rinse it off after around twenty minutes.
Q: What is the difference between magnesium oil spray and magnesium flakes?
A: Both are magnesium chloride, but the format differs. Flakes are dissolved into a bath or foot soak, which takes time and hot water. The spray is a ready-mixed solution applied directly to the skin in seconds, which makes it the more practical option day to day.
Q: How should magnesium oil spray be used safely?
A: Magnesium oil spray is for external use only and must not be swallowed. A light tingling on first use is commonly reported. Patch test on a small area first, avoid the eyes and broken skin, and stop using it if irritation occurs. If you are pregnant, have a kidney condition or take prescribed medication, speak to your doctor before use.
